About Sounds of the Spring
Sounds of the Spring is a music festival held each spring in Downtown Milledgeville. This event features performances by a collection of artists from Milledgeville, Athens, and Atlanta. Guests require a wristband to enter the participating venues.
Formally known as Sounds of the South, the festival was founded in 2012 by Georgia College students with the intention of offering a music-filled night that would help stimulate local economic growth. These students also wanted the proceeds to benefit nonprofit organizations.
After a period of dormancy, Sounds of the South was revived in 2019 with a mission to raise money for the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority, which aims to renovate the grounds at Central State into a community garden, venue space, and works on the mental health museum for the old Central State Hospital.
On March 3rd, 2023, the festival was once again revived post-covid, hosting 15 local artists across four venues. Later the same year, the festival rebranded to its current name,Sounds of the Spring.
