(Milledgeville, Ga) -- When early voting begins on October 12th, Baldwin County voters will be casting their ballots in the new county government annex.

In previous elections, advance voting was at the county courthouse downtown, but Chief Deputy Registrar Randy Morrow tells WGUR radio the move is all about space.

“We’re looking for 75-85% turnout,” said Morrow. “Even with absentee ballots, a lot of people are still going to try to vote in-person, and we don’t have enough room in [the courthouse] to handle that kind of a crowd and have social distancing.”

The Baldwin County Government building is located at 1601 N. Columbia, Street Milledgeville, Ga 31061.

Morrow believes the location has many benefits for residents. “There’s plenty of parking, the voter doesn’t have to go through security, they can come right into the voting area from the parking lot,” Morrow added. “I think a lot of people are going to show up to in-person early voting because they want to see the new building.”

While the last day to request an absentee ballot is the Friday before election day, he encourages people to think about the turnaround time. “If you mail something within Baldwin County, it takes 2-3 days for it to get to another person in Baldwin County,” said Morrow.

Instead of mailing them, voters can place their completed absentee ballot in one of the secure drop boxes either at the courthouse or the new annex.

Baldwin County residents will be early voting in a new location starting October 12th; WGUR's Jonathan O'Brien has the details.
